Whether you hosted a big Christmas party or just spent the holidays with your loved ones, cleaning up after Christmas and New Year’s Eve can be quite overwhelming. Cleaning has probably been the last thing you are thinking about but we all know it’s there in the back of our minds and it has to be done at some point. If you’ve already taken down your Christmas decorations then, first of all, well done! Our tips are still applicable to you if you to keep the house clean or de-clutter ready for the rest of the year. After all, we want to start the New Year as we mean to go on, and having a sparkling clean home will most definitely set the tone for the rest of the year.
A lot of us tend to think of taking down the decorations and cleaning up as a massive chore. Instead, put your favourite music on while you are cleaning and make sure to rewards yourself with plenty of cups of tea and snacks. Getting the family involved is a great tip for making the cleaning less of a chore-but it is easier said than done! If you have young children a good idea is to make the cleaning into more of a game. Who can wash the most dishes in 10 minutes?
One bit at a time
When you look at all the mess and clutter that has accumulated over the past few hectic weeks it can be very overwhelming. In fact, the more you look at it the more you start to think I might as well let it build up more, then do it all in one go! A good tip is to hack away at it bit by bit. You could set yourself one goal for the day, whether it’s taking the Christmas tree down, making a pile of sentimental clutter that needs to go back into the attic, or cleaning those red-wine stains off the carpet!
Why not sort your clutter out into piles? Items that are either broken or won’t be used again (be honest with yourself!) and need to be thrown away, items that need to go back into hiding, and items that can be donated. The things that can be donated might be board games that you didn’t get round to playing, leftover food or unused winter coats.
